Bullying 101
What is bullying?
Bullying is repeated aggressive behavior or, quite simply, unprovoked meanness. It's a form of intimidation, which is behavior designed to threaten, frighten, or coerce someone. (Kowalski, 2004, 1)
What forms do bullying come in?
Unfortunately, bullying comes in many forms. Teasing, taunting, threatening, hitting, harassment, and cyber-bullying are all examples. Boys tend to engage in more direct, physical bullying than girls do. Girls tend to use more subtle and indirect forms of bullying such as spreading rumors and exclusion. Basically, bullying can be any repeated unwanted verbal or physical abuse. (Olweus, 2005, 1)
